Johnathan “Uncle John” Gilbert
David Anders Holt was born on March 11, 1981, and as we know, is an American television and stage actor, best known for his roles as Julian Sark on “Alias” (2002), as Adam Monroe on “Heroes” (2007) and recently for his role as Johnathan Gilbert on “The Vampire Diaries” (2010).

John Gilbert is Grayson Gilbert’s brother, uncle of Elena & Jeremy or at least that’s what everyone thought until episode 21 where Isobel dropped the bomb at the end of the episode when she asked to John to keep the Salvatore brothers away from Elena because yes, surprise, surprise, he is Elena’s biological father.
But that was not the whole story about this mysterious character; the fact is that as a member of The Founder’s Council, John returns to Mystic Falls, to be greeted by Mayor Lockwood for his services to town, very nice of him huh? Well don’t be so sure about it, because that’s not exactly why he’s only in Mystic, the truth is that he came back to execute his plan, yes, eliminate all the vampires released from the tomb including of course the Salvatore brothers, how? Using his ancestor’s invention, an invention created to emit a noise tone harmless for humans but renders vampires and werewolves helpless by a deafening sound.
When he gets this device at the season finale, he actually captures the vampires who escaped from the tomb & burned them, but not everything could work perfectly for this guy right? Of course not, believing his quest to be finished, he returns to the Gilbert’s house were he talked to Elena about why he had done it & why he kept the truth about their bond for so long. However, she then cut off his fingers to dispose the ring that kept him from dying before stabbing him, at that point, John realizes that he wasn’t talking to Elena but no other else than to, yes, surprise for him and for all of us, to Katherine.
What’s going to happen with John? Well that’s an uncertain picture, but what we can assure you is that at least we’re going to see him on the first episode of season 2, where Miss Katherine Pierce will make her dangerous appearance to complete the love square.

His first role was in 2001 in Olsen twins’ series “So Little Time” and then he got a role in “Alias” the same year as Julian Sark until 2006, but between those 5 years he also appeared on TV shows such as “Charmed”, “CSI” & “Grey’s Anatomy”.
Also in 2005 he participated on a rock musical called “Beautiful” and appeared in the film “Circadian Rhythm”. Later in 2007 played a regular role in 2nd season of “Heroes” as Adam Monroe and then in 2010, he got the role as Johnathan Gilbert in the TV series “The Vampire Diaries”, so far he is working in 2 movies; “Into the Blue 2: The Reef” and “The Revenant”

Night of the Comet
The episode opens with Mystics Falls preparing to celebrate the passing of the comet, and once again Damon Salvatore slaughters a couple.
Elena and Stefan wake up, greeting the day feeling optimistic and positive, and as their journal entries tell us, this is something new, different, and exciting for them. A welcome change from how they normally feel, the two of them are happy because they will see each other again and they are each other’s hope for a fresh start.
Vicki was attacked and is in the hospital. She does not really remember much about the attack, and though she’s lost a lot of blood, she is recovering and will be fine.
Meanwhile, Stefan overhears Elena and Matt’s conversation regarding Vicki. Matt and Elena are skeptical about Vicki’s injuries being the result of a vampire attack; rather, they think that Vicki was drunk when an animal attacked her, so she does not remember details about the incident or animal. However Stefan sees the truth in Vicki’s story and is worried that she mentioned vampires. He disappears to the hospital hoping to erase her memory completely of what and who really attacked her, but is stopped in the middle of the compulsion process when Matt arrives at the hospital to hear the full story of Vicki’s attack from his sister herself. Upon his arrival she is startled and frightened, going into a state of hysteria. When a panicked Matt goes to call a nurse for help, Stefan is able to compel Vicki, so that the only thing she remembers about the incident is that an animal attacked her. He then leaves the room hoping to escape unnoticed. However, when Matt reenters the room with a nurse, Vick is surprisingly fine and sound asleep. Puzzled by her sudden change in behavior, Matt suddenly notices Stefan’s suspicious, retreating figure in the hallway and follows him. Stefan runs into a blood bank room to throw Matt off his trail, and while it makes him uncomfortable he is able to keeps his temptation under control and leave discreetly without Matt noticing.
Jeremy is still skipping school all the time due to his complicated feelings for Vicki and the trauma of his parents’ death. Due to his reckless behavior Mr. Tanner requests a meeting with Aunt Jenna, since she is now the primary caretaker of Jeremy and Elena. He insinuates that she is unable to properly control two teenaged children. She justifies that it isn’t difficult taking care of Jeremy and Elena because they’re good kids, to which Mr. Tanner remarks that her answer is wrong, saying that “If it’s easy then you aren’t doing it right.” He forces her to acknowledge the situation, promise to address Jeremy’s issues, and confront his self-destructive behavior.
Getting in spirit for Mystic Fall’s festivities, Elena, Bonnie and Caroline talk about the coming of the comet. Last time it passed it brought paranormal activity and lots of death. Caroline is skeptical. Elena then leaves to meet Stefan.
Jenna finally approaches Jeremy to discuss the conversation she had with Mr. Tanner about his school absence and declining performance. He cooperates with her for a while but then abruptly leaves because he is concerned for Vicki and he sneaks out to visit Vicki.
Elena visits Stefan at the old Salvatore Boarding house. But, instead of Stefan greeting her, she meets Damon who frightens and intimidates her, but is amazingly polite and charming. He introduces himself and is surprised to hear that Elena was unaware Stefan had a brother. He also brings up the subject of Stefan’s past relationship, than pretends it wasn’t intentional “You haven’t had the awkward exes conversation yet?” he asks Elena, making her feel uncomfortable, “Oops well I’m sure it will come up now,” he says to stir up trouble. Suddenly Stefan comes home to find Elena alone with Damon, which stresses him. Not wanting her to spend any more time with his brother, he tells her she shouldn’t be here, and swiftly walks her to door.
Vicki finally wakes up in the hospital feeling completely normal. Due to Stefan’s compulsion she believes that an animal attacked her and admits this as the truth. Jeremy manages to visit her, which at first angers her because she doesn’t want to put him in any trouble but ultimately she is thankful that he was the one who found her.
When Vicki comes back to work at the Grill, Tyler finally tries to show concern for how she’s been. Jeremy sees Vicki together with Tyler again and it hurts him. At first she does act cold towards him but she quickly forgives his neglect. Jeremy is angered and frustrated by the way Tyler mistreats Vicki. He threatens Tyler, promising that he will kill him if he hurts Vicki one more time. Vicki begins having nightmares with Damon in them, and Zack is concerned about Vicki and whether she will talk. Her nightmares lead Stefan to believe her memory is coming back and he isn’t sure how well the compelling worked.
When nightfall arrives the town is bustling with excitement for the celebration and gathers to watch the comet’s passing. Stefan finds Elena and apologizes to her for his rudeness at the boardinghouse. Elena is confused by his hot-and-cold behavior and thinks that both their lives are too complicated to be together.
Damon intercepts Vicki at the Grill and abducts her from the ladies restroom. Everyone’s looking for Vicki, they all now know that Jeremy is dealer and that he slept with Vicki as well, word reaches Tyler, Matt and Elena, and they are not okay with that. Matt tells Stefan that Vicki’s missing. Stefan hears Vicki with Damon on the rooftop.
When Stefan confronts Damon, Damon threatens to let Vicki go off the rooftop and fall to her death. Then to have more fun with her and his brother, he compels Vicki so that she believes it was Stefan that attacked her. Damon opens her wound dressing and gives her to Stefan, hoping to tempt his brother to feed on her and silence her forever. Stefan manages to resist the blood and says that he would rather let her go screaming that vampires have returned. Even though he knows the townspeople would hunt him and kill him. Damon is surprised by Stefan’s reaction and repulsion to take human blood from Vicki. Finally bored, he compels Vicki to forget everything that happened on the rooftop with him and Stefan.
Upon his sister’s safe return, Matt thanks Stefan for finding Vicki. Stefan goes to the table where Bonnie and Caroline are because there is still one more thing he needs to do. He asks for Elena, Bonnie smiles and gives him Elena’s e-mail and phone number. As soon as Bonnie touches him she winces overwhelmed by an eerie feeling.
Elena finds Jenna searching Jeremy’s room frantically for drugs. She’s scared that she won’t be able to do the right thing in the situation to best help Jeremy so that he can grow up and mature. Elena tries to calm her down.
Elena visits Stefan. He’s glad that she came. She tells him what she would write in her diary. Now she knows that she shouldn’t ever take any risks. She’s scared, that if she will let herself be happy for even few moments, it’ll hurt her when she’ll lose it all. He quotes her words, saying that he would write that he met a girl, they talked and it was epic. And the reality was when they kissed. J
While all’s well for Stefan and Elena at the moment, danger with a capital D for Damon, is still on the loose. Caroline falls prey to Damon’s charm, allowing him to close enough to bite her. Is Caroline going to be okay? Will she survive? Find that out on next episode!

Family Ties
The episode opens with Elena waking up from a dream. She walks downstairs and sees that the television is on and broadcasting the news – a story about a dead girl, Elena’s looks to the screen and sees her own face reflected back at her. SHE’S DEAD! She sees Damon. He’s after her and bites her. Suddenly Stefan wakes up – it was nothing but a nightmare, planted in his head by his brother. Damon is manipulating Stefan’s weakness to scare him. Stefan is irritated by this and temporarily gets his revenge by stabbing Damon in his rage. But of course, Damon is unaffected and easily removes the weapon. He taunts Stefan by explaining that he is taking extra care to cover his hunting tracks because he wants to stay in Mystic Falls. So it seems that Stefan won’t be able to get rid of the menace that is his brother that easily. To add insult to injury, Damon stabs Stefan in return, temporarily wounding him, but Stefan recovers with wicked-fast vampire healing abilities! Though Damon tries to convince Stefan to turn to the “dark side” Stefan is repulsed by his brother’s actions and retorts that he is trying to figure out how to stop a monster, not become one. Damon compels Caroline to invite him to the Founders Party. He’s reading Twilight and explains that becoming a vampire is not as easy as the books make it seem, you need to be bitten by one, and then feed on his blood, then die and feed on human blood. He also wants her to do something for him. Tyler is with his parents at the Mystic Grill. Vicki comes over to them and Tyler refuses her, acting like they aren’t even friends. This upsets Vicki.
Bonnie is shocked that Caroline is taking Damon to the party. Elena is going with Stefan and so she has to go by herself. Caroline puts her plan, or rather Damon’s plan, into motion. She tells Bonnie something about Damon and Stefan and forbids her to talk to Elena about it. Zack trusts Stefan enough to show him a secret store of Vervain that he has been growing and saving up. Vervain is a plant that is lethal to vampires, and would weaken Damon so they can fight him. It’s been passed down through the Salvatore generations. Vicki tries to ask Tyler to do something together. Then she gets mad because she understands that he’s ashamed of her, and that’s why he ignores her in front of his parents. She leaves angrily and Tyler’s mother tells him not to let the trash into the party, because this is what happens, they cause a scene. A breeze blows out a candle on Bonnie’s table. She looks at it and it lights up again! Alarmed by her powers she blows it out again.
Elena goes to dance with Stefan. Although Caroline observes, “how cute they are together” the pair gets into a fight. Elena needs to know more about Stefan, although she likes that he’s the “mystery guy” she wants him to talk to her, and share his secrets with her. To Elena, it feels like Stefan doesn’t trust her. Stefan feels that she should trust him without questioning it. She says that “Trust is earned, I can’t just magically hand it over.” Stefan thinks that Damon is trying to turn her against him. Elena gets mad and walks away. Bonnie thinks that Elena and Stefan’s fight is because of her. She thinks she’s a “doubt planter.” Mrs. Lockwood asks Elena about the missing watch, and Elena claims that she couldn’t find it. Meanwhile Damon and Caroline embark on his secret assignment, the reason he compelled Caroline to ask him to the party. They sneak upstairs to where the Founders’ collection items are housed; he removes a very important amber crystal pendant from the secrets box. Jenna and Logan talk again; Logan earnestly apologizes for the way he treated her admitting that he was young and stupid. She’s about to forgive him and he takes the chance to invite her to lunch. Mrs. Lockwood yells at one of the caterers because the candles aren’t lit. Bonnie witnesses this, and doesn’t like the way Mrs. Lockwood disrespects her employees. After the two leave, she tries to light these candles the same way she lit the first one with her mind. When nothing happens at first, she believes it to be a fluke and she leaves. Then she turns, and sees, that every candle on the table is lit! Elena meets Caroline in the ladies room and notices bites all over her body. She is frightened by how Damon is abusing her friend and runs to tell Stefan. She is shocked to see he doesn’t look surprised or alarmed at all. He says he’s working on the situation, but that’s not enough for Elena. She also threatens Damon to stay away from her friend because Caroline’s mother is a sheriff and if this happens again, Elena will inform her. Vicki goes to Jeremy after escaping the embarrassment of the party. She says she’s ready to make one more wrong choice, and kisses him. J Damon is angry with Caroline for revealing so much to Elena. She apologizes to him. He tries to kill her and bites her; instead he falls to the ground. Stefan arrives, satisfied with the attack on Damon. He explains that although he couldn’t spike Damon’s drink twice in a row, he spiked Caroline’s, knowing that Damon would try to get rid of her tonight and bite her. Vervain circulated in her blood and poisoned Damon. After the Salvatore brothers make a quick get away Caroline regains consciousness, she is alive, but shaken and shocked. Elena rushes to her aid and notices how badly Caroline is shivering and trembling, the two are scared to death, and Elena fears for Caroline’s safety. Stefan and Zack trap Damon in the basement, a chamber full of Vervain to keep him weak and prevent him from inflicting danger on Mystic Falls and its innocent residents. Now the real deathly beast is captured. Sheriff Forbes, the Lockwood’s, and Logan gather together after the Founders’ party. They need Gilbert’s pocket watch for an important task, and do not believe Elena when she said that she could not find it. Logan says that he can get it, because he’s meeting Jenna soon. The Sheriff reveals that they have found 5 bodies, all drained of blood and this time, she’s sure, THEY HAVE COME BACK!!! Does somebody else know about the vampires?
Jenna reveals to Elena that she dated Logan Fell the local news anchor. Meanwhile, the citizens of Mystic Falls are hard at work preparing for the Founders Party. Elena decides to loan some family heirlooms to the Founders’ council to put on display, including a pocket watch, which irritated her brother Jeremy. Jeremy is also disappointed that Vickie is going to the party with Tyler.
Of course, Caroline told Bonnie a secret that could affect Elena’s relationship with Stefan and so Bonnie tells Elena, the story that Damon had Katherine first and Stefan did horrible things to break them up. Elena refuses to believe this because it’s only one side of the story – Damon’s.
Stefan spikes Damon’s drink with Vervain. Damon’s remembering Stefan and Katherine – the perfect couple of first Founders’ party. He almost drinks Vervain. But he doesn’t. Since the move failed, now Damon’s knows to be on the alert, Stefan’s trying to poison him.
Mrs. Lockwood calls Elena and says that the Gilbert family pocket watch from the loans collection is missing. Elena goes straight to Jeremy because she knows he thought it was wrong to give it to the Founders’ collection when it belongs to their family. Jeremy took it because his dad was going to give it to him, traditionally; the watch is passed down to the first-born son.
Vicki arrives at the Founders’ party and Tyler swiftly takes her to the backside of the house – so his parents wouldn’t notice. But his mom already did.
Right before she leaves for the party, Elena decides since the pocket watch means so much to her brother he deserves to have it, and gives it back to Jeremy.
Stefan and Elena and Damon and Caroline are at the party. Jenna runs into Logan Fell, an ex of hers, at the party. He tries to ask for her forgiveness but she rejects him.
Elena notices Stefan and Damon’s names on the list of the first Founders’ party’s guest list. Damon saves the situation by saying that those names were of the original Salvatore brothers. Caroline asks Damon to dance, but he politely declines, and so she decides to take Stefan. Elena stays alone with Damon and he tells her the story about original Salvatore brothers. They died by gunshots in their efforts to a woman that they both loved from a burning church. “Isn’t that what it always comes down to,” he muses to Elena, “the love of a woman?” He also apologizes to her about trying to kiss her. Stefan dances with Caroline and gives her champagne.

You’re Undead to Me
The episode opens to reveal that Damon is still locked away in the basement with the Vervain under Zack and Stefan’s supervision at the Salvatore boarding house. Stefan has also taken away his sun protection ring, because he won’t need it anymore. They both know what will happen to Damon down there – he will grow weaker and weaker until he will mummify into little more than a living corpse.
Elena runs into Vicki in her and Jeremy’s bathroom, and puts together that she obviously spent the night at the Gilbert home, when Elena brings this up to Aunt Jenna, Jenna says that she knows about them, and jokes that she just wishes he would at least try to hide it better. When their conversation turns to Elena, it reminds Elena that she hasn’t heard anything from Stefan for three days. Since he won’t call her, she won’t call him either.
Meanwhile, Stefan is preoccupied with the danger Damon presents. He warns Zack not to go downstairs to the basement alone because Damon still could be dangerous and has strength enough to overpower Zack.
Bonnie is with Caroline at her house and tries to get Caroline to open up about why she suddenly stopped seeing Damon, but she refuses to discuss it. Bonnie’s eye catches the crystal pendant that Caroline and Damon took from the Founder’s collection, Caroline reveals that she thinks that Damon had been about to give it to her.
The next day Caroline’s at school and acts like nothing has happened. Stefan meets Elena and explains his distance lately by saying that he was dealing with Damon. He wants to make it up to her and they make plans to meet later. Caroline goes to Stefan and asks about Damon – he has apologizes to her for his brother, and tells her that Damon won’t ever come back. At the Grill Elena is supposed to meet Stefan but he’s late so she plays billiards with Matt instead. Zack hears Damon coughing from the basement. He walks downstairs and explains that even if Damon tried to bite Zack, his blood will only make the suffering worse because he has been drinking Vervain for years. He’s about to leave when suddenly Damon catches his neck and starts coughing him. He orders him to open the door. Stefan gets there in just in time to save Zack. He also threatens Damon, warning him that the faster he will use his strength the faster he will exhaust himself and fade away. While Matt and Elena catch up and discuss, Matt reveals to Elena that Stefan might be a nice guy; she should give him another chance. Then Stefan shows up – an hour late. Elena is angry with him. Suddenly and older gentleman approaches Stefan and says that he knows him. He says: “My God! How can it be? You haven’t aged a day!” Stefan recovers by saying that the man must have mistaken him for someone else to prevent Elena’s suspicions. But Elena demands to know what the man meant but Stefan claims that he doesn’t know him. Jeremy is concerned about Elena. He insists she should get something to eat. She goes down and hears something in the kitchen. It can’t be Jenna – she’s with Logan. She goes into the kitchen and sees Stefan there. He’s making Elena’s favorite dinner. If she wants to dump him she should know what she’s dumping. J So he’s decided to tell her everything – about Katherine, about Damon and that he’s no longer crippled by her loss. Vicki gets high again. Jeremy’s had enough with this behavior, and wonders if the drugs are the only reason they spend time together. He wants to change, to be better –to not be a drug user anymore, but she doesn’t want anyone to change her, and won’t change for anyone. Elena and Stefan are laughing and talking about movies and music. She helps Stefan cutting vegetables and cuts her finger. Her blood gets on Stefan’s hand and she goes to wash her hand. In the window she notices how Stefan’s face changes and he turns away. He avoids her and then turns back normal again. Elena thinks that she’s having hallucinations. They kiss again. J Damon influences and compels Caroline from a distance by saying her name, this causes her mind to think of him and conjure up a mental image of him. At the school is going on “Sexy Suds Carwash”. Elena and Stefan are there, too. When one of the girls is unnecessarily rude to another student, Bonnie decides to handle the situation with her newfound talents, she glares intensely at the girl causing the hose to explode, and to the girl’s embarrassment she is unable to control the stream of water. Elena noticed that Damon has the same ring as Stefan. Elena sees that it’s a valuable antique and offers to put it in her pocket, but Stefan refuses to take it off even when washing the car. Caroline goes for some towels. She sees hallucinations of Damon again and goes to help him. Elena meets the elder from Grill at the carwash. She talks to him and knows that the man’s name that he met many years ago really was Stefan Salvatore and he had a brother Damon. And, most surprising, that was in June of 1953. Vicki pulls Jeremy to cemetery where other drug users are partying. He doesn’t feel comfortable. She took pills from Jeremy’s house, he gets mad at her. They get into a fight and Jeremy leaves. Elena sneaks away from the carwash and with Logan’s help gets into the news channel’s archive to search for information about the Salvatore’s. Caroline gets to Damon’s house and goes down to basement. She opens the door, but Zack stops her just in time, commanding her to run and make a safe escape before Damon can attack her, unfortunately in the process, Damon snaps Zack’s neck…and manages to make a run for Caroline. Luckily, she gets away and Damon can’t follow her anymore because he doesn’t have his ring with him, Stefan still has it. The girl that Bonnie gets revenge on with the out of control hose orders Bonnie to clean up the excess water, Bonnie is so irritated that she ignites the water and everything in its path, including a car, ablaze with her intense gaze! Before the destruction can spread, Stefan shakes her out of the trance. She is frightened and begs him not to tell anyone. Then she suddenly leaves. In the frenzy, Stefan loses sight of Elena and asks Matt where to find her; Matt has no idea and reasons that Elena must have gone home early from the car wash. Seeing how torn up Stefan is, Matt resolves to give him some advice, Elena values the truth and will fight until she has discovered Stefan’s secrets. Matt feels it’s better for the relationship if Stefan is upfront and honest with her about why he’s hiding things. And so she does. She finds an old video where Joseph Salvatore has been killed by an animal. News from June 12, 1953. And in the back, the reporter says that the man might be Joseph’s niece. The video then zooms in to provide shocking evidence…the man’s nephew is Stefan! He looks exactly the same as today…Stefan finds Zack dead and mourns his death… Meanwhile all through Mystic Falls strange and mysterious things are occurring, when light shines through the necklace in Caroline’s room a magic star shows up. And Bonnie goes to her Grams, scared to death and says that she doesn’t know what’s going on with her. Logan finally finds the Gilbert watch in Jeremy’s room. The drug users, including Vicki, still are at cemetery. When the music stops Vicki goes to turn it back on. Instead, she finds and injured man who’s definitely in pain. He gasps and invites her closer. She goes to help him, and falls right into the preying grasp of Damon Salvatore. Without a second thought, he bites her and drinks her blood before she can even scream or cry out, she’s gone. Fueled with rage by Damon’s reckless actions and the ruthless murder of his innocent uncle, and grabs a stake to hunt his brother. When he leaves his home to pursue Damon, he’s surprised to find a frightened Elena standing in front of him. She came to his house to ask him one question. In a trembling voice: “What are you?” Elena whispers.
That’s the tantalizing way this episode ends… Will Stefan reveal himself and Damon to Elena? How will she react? and The Vampire Diaries!
Elena reflects on her startling discovery and writes in her diary.
Dear Diary, I’m not a believer. People are born, then they grow old and then they die. That’s the world we live in. There’s no magic, no mysticism and no immortality. It’s not possible. I’m not a believer. I can’t be! But how can I deny what’s right in front of me? Someone who never grows old never gets hurt, someone who changes in ways that can’t be explained. Girls bitten, bodies drained of blood.

Taylor is an American actor and model who was born on July 15, 1981 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Even when as a new actor on the road, he has been recognized mainly for his role as Luke Gianni, on TV series Fashion House and his staring role on Trauma as Glenn Morrison. After this role as paramedic Morrison, Kinney has been called to play Uncle Mason Lockwood on Season 2 of, The Vampire Diaries.

Mason is Mayor Richard Lockwood’s younger brother, who has come to Mystic Falls after the death of Richard to support Tyler and help him to get through these events that are going to change his life, making him see the real world from a different perspective.
Even though there’s no much information about this character’s past, according to some, he’s going to be a very significant part on Season 2, not only because he’s here to help Tyler to deal with his father’s death but because he is also a werewolf and according to Michael Trevino’s words, Uncle Mason is “a cool and charming person, who can flip an instant if it’s crossed, specially because of the control he has of himself, something that maybe Tyler needs to learn”.
We can’t assure the future of both characters and how the relationship between Tyler and his Uncle will develop, or even we can’t assure you how Mason’s relationship with the Salvatore brothers will be, but we can assure that Mason Lockwood is in Mystic to make the Lockwood family name remain in our minds along Season 2 and yes, we can be sure we’re not going to forget this character so easily.
